1st Assignment:
OK- lets start interacting with each other. For Monday you must respond to the following questions and then visit at least 2 other student blogs and comment on the responses those students have written. Comments are meant to create dialogue and deepen understandings– not just say COOL! or I AGREE.
“What is done cannot be undone”——– Does this define who you are? You create your own future by the actions that you have done in the past. Therefore, yes, this defines who you are. Whatever you have done previously in your life makes you who you are today. Everything that you do, defines you as a person, although this can change. If you lie once, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you are a liar. If you lie many times, obviously than that makes you a liar. For example, Macbeth has murdered, but that doesn’t mean that he is a murderer either. Although, if you want to go back and erase the past, and erase that lie, or that murder, you won’t be able to, because, as this quote states; “what is done cannot be undone”
Can you escape past deeds? You cannot escape past deeds. As the quote above says; “what is done cannot be undone”. Once you’ve done something, it sticks to you forever, and it becomes part of your past, and therefore, part of who you are. It’s not really positive to escape from past deeds, when you can really learn from them. If you look back, you will probably have a lesson to learn.
Are you a product of what you have done?In my opinion, this statement is true. What you have done in the past, has taken you to do other things, which have made you become a certain kind of person. This is like this, because once you’ve done things in the past, you have learned from them, and this had made you act is ways that have defined your personality, or who you are as an individual.
I agree that there is always a lesson to learn when escaping past deeds, because there is always a lesson in every mistake. But I don’t agree that ALL past deeds make a person up. I mean, just becuase someone was a bad student for a semester, does that mean they are stupid or lazy? Maybe they were goging through a bad time or something. It’s just an example, but I disagree with you when you say that “Once you’ve done something, it sticks to you forever, and it becomes part of your past, and therefore, part of who you are.”
Also, how can you say that Macbeth is not a murderer? He is! Different things in life have certain amount of importance. Kiling someone, even if it’s once makes you a murderer… becuase you can’t compare killing someone to lying. Lying you have to do it many times to be a liar, becuase everyone lies, but we’re not all liars. But not everyone kills. And they have different importance levels.
